Help your kids learn about the childhood of the prophet Joseph Smith with our FREE downloadable packet about the prophet's early years. There are pages with stories and puzzles for older children, and "Church History Journal" pages for younger kids to illustrate. Great for Family Home Evening lessons, family discussions, or Sunday afternoons. This packet is part of a chapter from Discover the Latter-day Prophets.
Our Church History series will soon be available, including a unit study on the life of each of latter-day prophets.
If you want to know more about the family of the Prophet Joseph and his early childhood, an interesting book (for adults) is Young Josephby Ivan J. Barrett, the author of many books on Church History. Brother Barrett writes about the boy Joseph from his birth until the time he received the gold plates.
Interested in reading about the childhood of other latter-day prophets? Here's a book receommendation for you. Boys Who Became Prophets written by Lynda Cory Robinson, is a great read for family time! My kids have loved learning about Spencer W. Kimball sitting in the dunce seat at school when he couldn't stop giggling, ofr Gordon B. Hinkley's encounter with a bear on a camping trip.

"And how do you get...a testimony? Well, there’s no new technology for that, nor will there ever be. You cannot do a Google search to gain a testimony. You can’t text message faith. You gain a vibrant,life-changing testimony today the same way it has always been done. The process hasn’t been changed. It comes through desire, study, prayer, obedience, and service." (Elder M. Russell Ballard, "Learning the Lessons of the Past," Ensign, May 2009, p. 34)
